Shadow Box:: The Prototype |

We started the physical design process by brainstorming external shapes for the box. The shape of box was important because it had to house several hardware components including the rear projection screen, RFID readers, projector, and various other electronics.
We developed and tested various shapes before deciding on the final form factor. The final prototype was built from cardboard and allowed us to work out the remaining design details and do a final test of functionality prior to actual development. The final prototype included 2 RFID readers placed side by side used to detect tags embedded in paper mock-ups of blocks. The prototyping process helped us to calibrate the exact size of the blocks and determine placement of the RFID tags within the blocks. |
